Levi Roots IEP Fellows Lecture 2024

We are thrilled to announce that our guest speaker for the 2024 IEP Fellows Lecture will be none other than Levi Roots, the celebrity chef and businessman behind the beloved hot sauce and a champion for social good. This exciting and prestigious event, exclusively for IEP Fellows, promises to be a captivating opportunity for networking and inspiration. Sponsored by Fedcap and Get Set UK, with support from IEP Fellow Andy Gullick’s RIFT Social Enterprise, the event is set to bring together leaders in the employability sector for an afternoon of thought leadership and meaningful connections.

Meet Levi Roots: Entrepreneur, Musician, and Advocate for Social Good

Levi Roots is a celebrated entrepreneur best known for his Reggae Reggae Sauce, which shot to fame after his memorable appearance on Dragon’s Den. His brand saw near-instant success and has grown into one of the UK’s most recognised names in the food industry. But Levi’s story goes far beyond business.

An advocate for community empowerment, Levi is a patron of RIFT Social Enterprise, a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping marginalised individuals achieve independence and financial security through self-employment. His personal journey – from overcoming significant challenges, including a stint in prison, to becoming a thriving entrepreneur – serves as an inspiring testament to resilience and the power of second chances.

Levi’s passion for combining his love for music and food is encapsulated in his mantra, “Put some music in your food!” He has made a mark not only in the culinary world but also on television. In 2009, he hosted the BBC Two series Caribbean Food Made Easy, bringing the vibrant flavours of Jamaica into British homes. Levi has also appeared on various popular TV cooking shows, including This Morning, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, and Saturday Kitchen Live. More recently, he starred in the return of Celebrity Big Brother on ITV.

Beyond his business ventures, Levi’s musical talents have seen him perform alongside legends such as James Brown, Maxi Priest, and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. He has even been nominated for a MOBO Award for ‘Best Reggae Act’. Today, Levi continues to fuse his love for music and culture through his DJ show, Reggae Reggae Sound System, where he mixes reggae classics with ska, rock steady, and 90s dancehall hits.
