As we get ready for our next programme start, we’re thrilled to share the success story of Abbie McDonald MAIEP from Fedcap Scotland, as a shining example of how the IEP Award in Employer Solutions can supercharge your career trajectory.

Since starting the programme Abbie has been promoted from Employer Solutions Consultant to Team Leader for In Work Support where she manages a team of 5 advisers with caseloads of up to 200 people. Abbie spoke to the IEP Learning Academy’s Kat Blacklock MIEP to discuss her journey through the Award ES and its profound impact on her role.

One of Abbie’s key takeaways from her learning experience is the programme’s emphasis on structured frameworks for engaging with employers. “The step-by-step process helped me better manage meetings, ensuring clarity of goals and effective time management,” she explains. “This approach not only strengthened our relationships with employers and participants but also resulted in me securing new employers. I was also able to see that my activities increased as well as my placements and I went from averaging 50-60% to achieving 100% of my target and that has a lot to do with the learning that I received from the IEP.”

Abbie also highlights the invaluable connections between theory and practice, citing tangible improvements in her day-to-day operations. “It’s helped me have a better understanding of participants with barriers and how to fulfil their needs as well as the needs of employers, be more engaging, be more mindful and improve my problem-solving skills as well as my diary management… it’s a win-win.”
